Puttu , Steamed Rice

Puttu is a breafast dish very common in Kerala, India. Its very healthy and easy to make. Heres the recipe

For 2 people

3 cups Fried Rice flour
Water as reqd
Salt as reqd
Grated coconut as reqd

Take the flour in a pot, add salt. If the rice flour is not fried, then fry it in a skillet for some time. Add a little bit water and mix together. Just add enough water so that u can hold the flour together as a ball at the same time the ball should fall apart if you poke it slightly. I guess i put it right. The right amount of water is all that matter. If water is less, then u wont get it together and more water makes it hard.

Take the puttu kutti (any pot with holes) .Take some water in a cooker and keep it on stove. In the puttu kutti, put the strainer, add a layer of coconut, then a layer of rice flour, then coconut and repeat until u reach the top. Cover the puttu kutti and place it over the cooker.

Keep it for 5 minutes or for a few minutes after u see steam coming out of the puttu kutti.
Off the stove, take the kutti offf the cooker , remove the lid and push the puttu on to a plate using the stick provided.
There u have the puttu..enjoy
