Parippu Pradhaman(Moong Dal/Green gram Payasam)

Dad's 60th Bday.
Today, my dad is celebrating his 60th birthday. The 60th birthday is a special occasion for us in kerala, so i wanted to make something special. And what is more special than pradhaman. So heres wishing you a very happy birthday dad and i think of u as i take each spoon of pradhaman. And here goes the easiest way to make pradhaman. Thanks to mumma, i would have never even attempted to make it, had she not told me this recipe.

1 cup Cherupayaru parippu
(Moong dal/Green gram)
11/2 cup jaggery (creamed brown sugar)
(jaggery diluted in water and strained)
1 cup coconut milk (canned)
(if your using fresh coconut milk, then theres a procedure, which goes like- u take the first milk, second milk, third milk of coconut .First add second and third and then when u r ready to off the stove add the first milk. I have never tried it, so cant say much abt that. One cup canned coconut milk is easy, believe me)

Fry the green gram in a pan. Dont burn them, just need to fry them for a while, they need not turn brown. Allow it to cool. Then pressure cook them in a pressure cooker for 5-6 whistles. Once the gram is cooked, open the cooker and mash the dal with a potato masher or a spoon. Then keep the stove on low flame and add the creamed jaggery. I would suggest that u taste it before u add jaggery , as consistency of the jaggery differs. U can always make it more sweeter later. Add an small piece of cinnamon and some cloves and cardomom. Add coconut milk and stir for about 2 minutes. Off the stove. Your pradhaman is ready to be served. But its not over. Fry some cashews and raisins and add to the pradhaman. Now its ready to be served to your loved ones. Its sure to earn you some credits.
Enjoy....
